Prince Louis celebrated his 8th birthday on Thursday, April 23rd. To mark the occasion, Duchess Kate and Prince William shared a birthday portrait of Prince Louis on their joint Instagram account. Prince Louis looked just like his mother in the photo as he posed against the waves while on a boat.
Prince Louis, the youngest son of Prince William and Duchess Kate, has reached a major milestone. Louis turned 8 years old on Thursday, April 23rd. To commemorate the occasion, his mother and father shared new portraits on Instagram.
The photo showed the young prince posing on a boat with blue waves in the background. In the image, Louis wore a blue quarter-zip sweater by Borden (a brand previously worn by the Princess of Wales) with contrasting red trim on the sleeves and flashed a relaxed smile for the camera.
“Happy Birthday Louis! You’re 8 years old today!” the photo’s caption reads. The Prince and Princess of Wales also commemorated their son’s special day by adding a red balloon emoji at the end of their caption.
It could be seen from the photo that Louis resembles his mother. Royal family members agree, with a friend of Kate’s telling People magazine in 2020: “Everyone always comments on how much Louis resembles Kate’s image. She loves it and thinks it’s really nice.”
The source added: “She often jokes that he’s the only one of her children who actually looks like her!”
Royal birthday traditions are often kept private, but Kate revealed that she sometimes stands behind the camera to take portraits of George, Charlotte and Louis, and stays up late the night before their birthdays baking desserts for the children.
Kate said in the 2019 Berry Royale Christmas feature: “I love making cakes.” “It’s become a bit of a tradition to stay up until midnight and make way too much cake with an insane amount of cake mix and icing. But I love it.”
Louis may be a year older, but Kate can’t help but look like he’s a new kid. “I always thought Louis was a baby, but now he’s a big boy,” she said while meeting the young children during a visit to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in 2022. “It seems like yesterday.”
