Olivia Rodrigo may be a little sour.
The “Good 4 You” singer skipped the 2026 Met Gala, despite staying in New York City and attending the afterparty that night.
Rodrigo spoke about the highly publicized event on May 29th’s New York Times Popcast, retorting: “I’m not really a fashion girl.” “The truth is, I’m not a fashion girl.”
Host John Caramanica responded by saying, “Frankly, a lot of people who attend the Met Gala aren’t in the fashion world.”
After carefully considering her words, the pop star said: “This is my third album. I don’t feel the need to do anything that doesn’t bring me joy, that doesn’t inspire me, that doesn’t uplift me, that doesn’t feel aligned with my values.”
She added, “It’s not that fun or exciting anymore,” agreeing with host Joe Santagato that she’s at a “more insightful” time in her career.
The 23-year-old has attended the Met Gala three times and appeared at this year’s Saint Laurent afterparty in a vintage Vivienne Westwood minidress. She last appeared on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2023, wearing a black and white rosette-trimmed dress by Thom Browne.
Rodrigo may not consider herself a fashion girl, but she has recently been at the center of controversy over the babydoll dress she wore on stage at the beginning of “Looks Pretty Sad for a Girl in Love.”
On the same NYTimes podcast, Rodriguez said, “I never thought I looked sexy wearing it. I thought this was so cool. I feel like Kathleen Hanna and Courtney Love, all these people who are my heroes.”
“I think this shows how we have normalized pedophilia in our culture,” she concluded with a sharp conclusion.
