MGK tried to completely change his appearance, which led to him becoming seriously ill.
The “Everything Tatted” rocker (previously known as Machine Gun Kelly) opened up about the grueling process behind his massive blackout tattoo in a new cover story for Billboard Canada. He revealed that he became ill as a result of pushing his body to its limits in order to complete the extensive body art in just two months.
“Just like I reinvented my sound, I wanted to reinvent my body,” MGK, 36, explained.
The musician (real name: Colson Baker) said celebrity tattoo artist Rox designed him a huge “dark mode” tattoo that covers most of his arm, chest and stomach.
The project was originally expected to take two years to complete, but MGK insisted it be completed in a fraction of the time.
“She warned me that it was almost impossible, even from a pain tolerance standpoint,” he recalled. “I said, ‘Yes, I have two more months.'”
Instead of taking a break to let his body recover, MGK spent several weeks at ROXX’s Los Angeles studio undergoing daily tattoo sessions.
“After the first week, my lymph nodes around my armpit and shoulder were attacked and I felt really sick,” he said. “My skin has turned yellow. I can’t sleep. I can’t move certain parts of my upper body.”
Despite the alarming side effects, Rocker pressed on, viewing the physically demanding process as a challenge he needed to overcome.
“I came out the other side very inspired,” he said. “Not just because of what I’ve done, but also because of what I have to overcome.”
In March, “The Dirt” actor added another tattoo to his collection. This is probably the coolest tattoo ever.
MGK tattooed his daughter’s name “Saga” in all capital letters on the back of his right hand. Saga is the name of his youngest child with ex Megan Fox. He is also the father of teenage daughter Casey from a previous relationship with ex Emma Cannon.
Berlin-based tattoo artist Sophie shared a photo of MGK’s latest tattoo – inked underneath the singer’s wild blackout art – on her Instagram.
“I got some great photos from the SAGA tattoo I did with @machinegunkelly on stage,” he wrote. “Love the atmosphere, it looks so fiery!!”
