It was a memorable set.
Mandy Moore has revealed that Macaulay Culkin forced her to drink underage while filming the 2004 teen comedy Saved.
The film, which follows a group of teenagers attending a Christian high school, took place in 2003 in Vancouver, where the legal drinking age is 19.
“I remember a little bit of underage drinking,” Moore confessed on Thursday’s episode of the “Shut Up Evan” podcast. “It just so happened that I thought, ‘Look, I didn’t go to high school.’ I was 18.”
Culkin was the oldest of the group, which included co-stars Jena Malone, Patrick Fugit, and Eva Amurri, and he “introduced” them to “White Russians” because he could legally drink in Canada.
“I thought, ‘Milk and alcohol? This was made for me,'” Moore recalled. “‘I love this! It’s like ice cream and amazing!'”
Culkin’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
At the time of filming, the actress had just appeared in 2001’s The Princess Diaries and 2002’s A Walk to Remember.
“I thought, ‘This would be fun,'” Moore recalled thinking.
“And the fact that I had so much fun doing both of those movies, The Princess Diaries, because I was with so many other young people. I thought, ‘Oh, this is like summer camp!’
Once on the set of “Saved,” Moore quickly formed a bond with her castmates.
“I felt like the cool kid,” exclaimed the “This Is Us” alum. “I thought, ‘Oh, I get to sit at the cool kid’s table with these young Hollywood kids who are making really cool choices, and they’re part of a really great movie.'”
Despite some drinking, Moore insisted the young stars were polite.
“I distinctly remember sweet, innocent incidents where we took giant marshmallows and threw them from the balcony at people,” she elaborated. “We were kids. We weren’t really trying to do anything bad.”
Moore called the making of “Saved” a “crazy, crazy, life-changing experience.”
“I loved the script and the characters, I thought it was really irreverent and funny, and I also loved moving the needle,” she mused.
The role of the smug Hilary Faye Stockard was also unlike any role Moore had played before.
The “Candy” artist remembers hoping this would “open the door to other projects” and make people look at him “in a different light.”
Moore went on to appear in series in a variety of genres, including romantic comedies, horror, and adventure.
The icon also appeared on NBC’s hit drama “This Is Us” for six seasons from 2016 to 2022.
During her time on the series, Moore received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2017 and an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in 2019.
In 2018 and 2019, Moore and the rest of the cast, including Milo Ventimiglia, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K. Brown, and Justin Hartley, won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
