Kristen Stewart says she wants to direct ‘Twilight’ reboot

Kristen Stewart recently told Entertainment Tonight that she would like to direct a reboot of Twilight, the 2008 vampire romance movie that launched her career.

“I love it, look at it. I love what Katherine (Hardwick) has done, I love what Chris (Weitz) has done, I love what all the directors have done in their movies,” Stewart said. “They were so unique, so strange, so squirrely, so present in a pre-explosion era when we didn’t really know who we were.”

Stewart said that ideally, the fictional project would have a “huge budget” and “a lot of love and support” from fans.

“Yes, of course I will remake it,” she added. “I’m doing it! I’m doing it for real!”

Stewart starred in the Twilight series alongside Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. The 2008 original spawned four sequels: 2009’s “New Moon,” 2010’s “Eclipse,” 2011’s “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” and 2012’s “Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” The series grossed over $3 billion at the worldwide box office.

Stewart is happy to return to Forks, Washington, but Pattinson may not agree right away. He told GQ in 2022 that he was “furious” and spent a lot of time on the Twilight set because the studio didn’t agree with his view of the film.

“I wanted it to be as artistic as possible,” Pattinson said at the time. “We had this weird tension and the studio was afraid things would get a little too emo or something, and I thought that was the only way to play it. I spent so much time[on set]furious…I can’t believe my acting half the time.”

Stewart recently made his directorial debut with “The Chronology of Water.” The film, starring Imogen Poots, Thora Birch and Jim Belushi, is about a woman who deals with childhood trauma through swimming and writing. For this film, Stewart was named one of Variety magazine’s annual 10 Directors to Watch in 2026.
