Khloe Kardashian paid tribute to her late grandmother, Mary Jo “MJ” Campbell, days after she passed away at the age of 91.
“My sweet MJ🦋,” the Good American co-founder wrote on Instagram on Sunday, alongside a throwback photo with the patriarch.
“Thank you for teaching us that life is to be celebrated, that laughter is healing, and that love is the greatest legacy we can leave behind. You lived so fully, so gracefully, so beautifully.”
“One of my greatest blessings is that my children knew their great-grandmother,” Kardashian added, referring to her children True, 8, and Tatum, 3, with ex Tristian Thompson.
“They experienced your hugs, your stories, your joy, and the incredible light you carried so effortlessly.”
Reflecting on the lessons she learned from MJ, the TV personality wrote, “You taught us that love never leaves. Love lives on in the families you build, the traditions we continue, the stories we tell, and every time we choose joy. Your love will forever be woven into us.”
She also thanked her grandmother for the lessons, laughter, and intentional time she gave her family, describing her as “a truly unique human being.”
“I know that heaven welcomes you with open arms and you are surrounded by everyone who has been waiting to see you again,” said Kardashian, whose father Robert Kardashian also died from esophageal cancer in 2003.
“And I know you kept your promise 🤍 to tell my dad how much we love him and how much we miss him,” she said.
“I know you’re happy eating Coke, tuna sandwiches, and graham crackers with Papa Harry while Karen dances all over you. Until we meet again, my sweet MJ! I love you 🤍,” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star concluded.
Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, announced MJ’s death on Thursday.
“[Campbell]taught me everything that really matters… to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to do things for the people you love, and to never take a moment together for granted. She taught us that family is everything,” Jenner wrote on Instagram.
She also emotionally said that her late mother “lives on” in the family tradition.
“When I look at my children and grandchildren, I will forever see a piece of you in all of us,” Jenner continued. “There is no part of me that you have not shaped, and if I have done anything right in this life, it is because I have spent my life trying to live in a way that would make you proud.”
Kim Kardashian later took to social media to explain why she posted a vacation photo to Instagram shortly after news of her grandmother’s death broke, after some accused her of being insensitive.
“This post was planned just days before we lost MJ, and the timing was right before she passed away,” she explained in response to a fan in the comments section of Thursday’s post.
“I’ve been by my mom and grandma’s side this past week. My heart is completely with the family right now. We love her so much and miss her so much. And in the coming days, we’re going to focus on celebrating her beautiful life 🕊️🤍.”
