Kevin Federline is ‘happy’ to see Britney Spears getting help on her own terms.
The singer’s ex-husband spoke through his attorney Monday about Spears’ voluntary entry into rehab after her DUI arrest last month.
“Kevin is aware of reports that she has entered a rehab facility and is happy that she will get help if she needs it, and it appears that the decision was hers to make and not one imposed on her by anyone else,” her attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told TMZ.
Kaplan could not immediately be reached for comment to Page Six.
Spears’ decision to seek help for substance abuse was her own choice, a source told Page Six Sunday.
“This isn’t about one substance in particular, it’s dual purpose… This is about Britney putting her mental health first and taking time to focus on what’s important to her,” the source added.
“She is dedicated to working on her health. This is something she really wants to do for herself. This was her own decision.”
Federline, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, has two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.
Sources say the “Toxic” singer’s family supports Spears’ decision to go to rehab.
“Everyone wants Britney to be healthy and in good shape, and the fact that this was her decision is a testament to how dedicated she is to her recovery and getting back on track,” the source said.
On March 4, Spears was seen swerving in and out of traffic lanes and taken into custody. An unknown substance was also allegedly found in her car during her arrest, and she is believed to have been under the influence of a cocktail of alcohol and drugs.
Spears has been spending time with her sons since her arrest. Last month, she posted a photo of herself vacationing on a yacht with Sean and Jayden.
Sean also recently conspicuously changed his Instagram handle, publicly aligning himself with his mother by removing his father’s last name and adding his mother’s.
Sean currently goes by the name “Sean P. Spears” on Instagram, but his previous handle was simply “Sean Preston.”
