Mason Haynes, the longtime celebrity bodyguard best known for his work with the Kardashians, has died at the age of 52.
Haynes died in a “tragic car accident” on July 4, two days before her 53rd birthday, according to a GoFund Me set up by her family.
“He leaves behind a devoted wife, Faye, a daughter, Brooke, a son, Noah, a loving family, and a wonderful circle of friends that spanned the globe,” the memorial continued, noting that “hundreds of messages” had been “flooded in” from “people whose lives Mason changed.”
Haynes’ family described him as someone who “made people feel welcome from the moment he met them”, someone who “would travel across the country to help a friend” and “a protector, a mentor and a prankster. A giant in every sense of the word, with an even bigger heart.”
In a eulogy, one friend wrote, “‘The world has been robbed of something rare…a truly good man,'” while another said, “The greatest gift was his humanity.”
The account said the funds raised would be used to “give Mason the send-off he truly deserved – a celebration of a life that touched so many people” and to “relieve some of the immediate financial pressures that inevitably accompany such a sudden and devastating loss” for his immediate family.
The bodyguard’s employer, Trojan Security UK, also paid tribute to Haynes on Instagram, sharing a photo of him towering over Kris Jenner while out and about. “Rest in peace, Big Mason,” they wrote at the top of the upload.
The company posted on July 6th, “We would like to pay tribute to Big Mason, an absolute legend in the close protection game,” with the caption, “He passed away too soon. Rest well and fly big, brother 🕊️.”
Haynes is best known for his work with Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kanye West and F1’s Lewis Hamilton, who Kim is currently dating, and was part of the family’s security team during the infamous 2016 robbery at gunpoint at a Parisian hotel.
In a 2018 interview with London Now, the bodyguard said, “I can’t go into too much detail about that,” calling the incident “a series of unfortunate circumstances where something bad happened.”
He also claims to have worked with A-listers such as Charlie Puth, Nicki Minaj, and Kevin Hart.
Haynes worked closely with high-profile clients and was a consummate professional. In a 2020 interview, he explained that he drew the line at being too friendly at work.
“Many bodyguards mistakenly think they are friends of their clients,” he said in an interview with Philippa Smith of Silver Swan Recruitment.
“I think the moment the line between professionalism and friendship blurs, you’re in serious trouble.”
