Jerry O’Connell revealed that Sarah Michelle Gellar dumped him after just one date.
“We were very young, we were kids,” he recalled Sunday on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast.
“Sarah Michelle dumped my ass,” he quipped. “Sarah Michelle took one look at me and thought, ‘I have to get away from this drunkard,'” said the actor, who is a recovering alcoholic.
“Oh my god. She was like one and done. It was literally like one date. She was like, ‘Well, that was fun.’
According to O’Connell, the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alum “needed a date to the Emmys” and he was helpful there, but he never went to the Emmys again.
“I look at her and her husband, and her husband is like a black belt in jiu-jitsu. So please, I don’t want anything to do with these people,” he joked, referring to Geller’s longtime husband, Freddie Prinze Jr.
“But it’s a beautiful family. I see her around the neighborhood and it’s so much fun.”
Geller, 49, and O’Connell, 52, were a mismatch, but both found the right partners and started families of their own.
Geller and Prinze met on the set of the 1997 horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer and began dating three years later.
The pair married in 2002 and have two children, daughter Charlotte, 16, and son Rocky, 13.
The TV presenter married Rebecca Romijn in 2007 and the couple have twin daughters, Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, both 17 years old.
