“Masters of the Universe” will be available to stream on Prime Video starting July 22nd. The film was a disappointing summer box office success, grossing just $113 million worldwide.
The film is based on the universe created by Mattel in 1982 and is the second live-action adaptation of the series, the first of which premiered in 1987 starring Dolph Lundgren.
Nicholas Galitzine plays Adam Glenn, aka He-Man, who must protect his home planet Eternia from the evil forces of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. The film also stars Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man at Arms, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Charlotte Riley, Morena Baccarin, Artie Wilkinson-Hunt, and Ale Farrell.
It was directed by Travis Knight and produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, and Devon Franklin. Chris Butler wrote the script, with David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee joining after writing the first draft.
“Masters of the Universe” was released in theaters on June 5 and grossed $29.3 million in its opening weekend in North America. It debuted in second place behind “Scary Movie” and cost approximately $200 million to make. The film was initially considered by multiple studios, including Netflix, Warner Bros., and Sony Pictures, before Amazon MGM purchased the rights in 2024.
This is not Galichizin’s first collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, having previously appeared in the film adaptation of Red, White and Royal Blue and co-starred with Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You. The actor also appeared in Netflix’s “Purple Hearts” and Amazon’s “Cinderella,” starring Camila Cabello. Galichijin will also reprise his role as Britain’s Prince Harry in “Red, White and the Royal Wedding,” the sequel to “Red, White and Royal Blue.”
