Disney+ has confirmed that “Made in Korea” has become the streamer’s most-watched Korean original premiere of 2025 across Asia-Pacific markets, based on viewership recorded in the 28 days since its Dec. 24 debut.

The crime noir series, set in 1970s South Korea, stars Hyun Bin as Baek Ki-tae, a South Korean Central Intelligence Agency operative who leads a dual presence of both government operatives and smugglers. This character uses illegal activities to advance within the institution while generating large amounts of money and protecting his brother. His promotion faces opposition from an incorruptible prosecutor played by Jung Woo-sung, sparking a high-stakes showdown between the two men.

The series also stars Woo Do-hwan as Baek Ki-hyun, Ki-tae’s younger brother. The series was written by Park Eun-kyo and Park Jun-seok, and directed by Woo Min-ho. Hive Media Corp is the production company.

Disney+ has already given the green light and begun production on the second season. The renewal was first confirmed at the Disney+ original preview event held at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2025.

The success of “Made in Korea” caps off a strong year for Disney+ in the region, with the platform releasing more than a dozen APAC series including “Hyper Knife,” “The Tempest,” “The Manipulate,” “Nine Puzzles” and “Gannibal” Season 2.

Hyun Bin has previously appeared in “Crash Landing on You” and “Confidential Assignment,” while Jung Woo Sung’s credits include “12.12: The Day” and “Hunt.” Woo Do Hwan has appeared in films such as “Bloodhound” and “Mr. Plankton.”

Director Woo Min-ho’s previous films include “The Man Standing Next” and “Inside Men,” and Hive Media Corp produced these films and “12.12: The Day.”
