Fans got a sneak peek of the Hudson Williams-starrer Yaga on Saturday afternoon.
A clip of Crave’s new mystery thriller was shown at a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, featuring series cast members Noah Reed (Schitt’s Creek), Clark Bucko (Venom: The Last Dance, Letterkenny), Carrie-Anne Moss (Memento), and showrunner and executive producer Kat Sandler.
Although they weren’t allowed to record exclusive SDCC clips, AMC+ posted a trailer on Instagram shortly after the panel. The video begins with a voiceover of Moss’s Catherine, eerily explaining various aspects of Baby Yaga, the Slavic folklore witch on which the show and the book are based.
“Sometimes she kills him, sometimes she eats him, sometimes she has sex with him,” she says of Baby Yaga and the victim. The video then cuts to a fast-paced montage of creepy and naughty clips. This includes footage of Williams sensually touching himself with his hand down his pants.
Williams was not in attendance, but recorded a video message for the packed venue. “I wish I could be with you all today and the beautiful cast and crew that I love so much,” he said. “I’ve never been to Comic Con either, so I’d really like to attend!”
“The show was great,” he continued. “It was a wild shoot and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed it.”
Based on Sandler’s hit play, Yaga is a reimagining of the Baba Yaga myth that follows Ladd (Reid), a private detective who comes to a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of Henry Park (Williams), a young heir to a powerful fishing business. He comes into conflict with Carson (Clark Backo), a troubled local detective, Katherine (Carrie-Anne Moss), a charismatic college professor with an interest in younger men, and a labyrinth of mysterious suspects.
“I’m the smartest showrunner in the world,” Sandler said of bringing Williams, who had a huge success with “Rivals,” on the show. “I was very lucky that he wanted to come and play.”
“You’ll see a different side of Hudson’s acting ability,” Reid added. “It’s a wild performance. He had blue eyes and everyone was commenting on that. It’s like, ‘Oh, it’s kind of horribly hot.'”
