Following last night’s emotional series finale, “Hacks,” Hannah Einbinder spoke out against Spencer Pratt’s candidacy for Los Angeles’ new mayor.
“I think there’s a lot of wealth in this city and a lot of people who pretend to be Democrats or leftists, but the reality is that the important issue to them is money, and that’s why they vote for people like Spencer Pratt, who President Donald Trump supports,” Einbinder told Variety’s Marc Malkin today at the Critics Choice Association’s LGBTQ+ Film & TV Celebration in Los Angeles. “It’s important to resist that.”
Pratt, star of MTV’s unscripted hit “The Hills,” quickly rose to prominence in this year’s mayoral race to unseat incumbent Karen Bass. Pratt, who lost his home in the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, has the support of celebrities and right-wing politicians.
Ainbinder said his thought process was “realistic” which led him to support Nithya Raman over Lei Huang. “It’s very complicated. No one is perfect, and no candidate is perfect. I am overwhelmed in many ways, but I made the choice to disparage Nithya. That’s what we’re doing!”
When Mr. Malkin said, “I want to see you run,” Mr. Einbinder sarcastically retorted, “Neither do you, and neither do I. No, Spencer shouldn’t do that, and neither should I, okay? I’m with Lisa Rinna, I support Lisa Rinna.”
Earlier this week, Rinna spoke to Variety about the Los Angeles mayoral race. She claimed she didn’t know who she was voting for, but clarified, “But it’s not a reality star. I love him (Pratt), but we’ve already done it. We’re not going to do it again.”
Einbinder has been one of the most vocal figures in Hollywood on a variety of issues, including support for Palestine and hatred of AI. On the red carpet, he also talked about the importance of the Los Angeles City Council election.
“Yes, the mayor is important. The mayor proposes a budget, but the City Council has to vote on it to pass it. It’s very important to focus on those elections as well.”
