Dee Dee Blanchard had a chilling exchange with her daughter Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, just before she was murdered in 2015.
“I heard screaming,” Gypsy Rose recalled Tuesday on Paul C. Brunson’s “We Need to Talk” podcast. “It was a terrible sound. There was screaming. It was a shock.”
She added, “I feel like I asked, ‘Who are you?'” I was asked. ”
The 34-year-old said a transcript of Mr Godejohn’s statement and conversations with other inmates at the prison confirmed that Mr Dee Dee had asked Mr Godejohn who he was.
“And he said, ‘I’m death,'” Gypsy Rose said. “So I know that’s probably what I heard.”
Dee Dee was stabbed to death by Gypsy Rose’s then-boyfriend on June 10, 2015, in a plot the two concocted.
Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy. Munchausen syndrome by proxy is a mental illness in which parents make up an illness or cause real symptoms to make their child appear ill.
Gypsy Rose will serve eight years in prison before being released in December 2023, while Godejohn, 37, is serving a life sentence.
On the podcast, Gypsy Rose, who was hiding in the bathroom while Godejohn murdered Dee, revealed that her mother called her name during the stabbing.
“I wanted to go and help her, but I was also scared,” she explained. “It was like my body was paralyzed, I couldn’t move. And I was so focused, trying to breathe and block it out.”
Gypsy Rose said she heard Dee Dee let out “one sharp scream” before the silence fell, at which point she knew her mother had died.
Godejohn then knocked on the bathroom door and Gypsy Rose came out.
“I don’t think he said anything. He had cut his finger and he wanted me to bandage it,” Gypsy Rose recalled.
The Internet star said that the moment was “totally naked” because that’s what Godejohn wanted.
“And he wanted me to hug him,” she continued. “So there was this kind of hug where I was in a state of shock. But I couldn’t believe what was happening.”
When Gypsy Rose finished her parole in June 2025, she described Godejohn as a “deeply disturbed man” in a since-deleted Instagram post.
“But he also knew the difference between right and wrong,” she said at the time. “Regardless of my role in unintentional manipulation, Nicholas made the decision to move forward that night.”
“It was a choice, and he is not immune from the consequences of that choice,” she added.
Gypsy Rose, who welcomed daughter Aurora with boyfriend Ken Aaker in December 2024, also vowed in a post that she had “taken responsibility” for her role in her mother’s murder.
“And now I get my life back,” she wrote. “When I accepted the sentence, I accepted the weight of my choices. I served my time. I owe nothing more to my past.”
