Greece has been chosen as the honorary country for the next Cannes Film Market, which will be held from May 11th to May 19th during the 80th Cannes Film Festival.
“This honor celebrates Greece’s remarkable rise as one of Europe’s leading audiovisual hubs and recognizes its growing influence in the global film and audiovisual world with a new generation of creators, a rapidly expanding production sector, and a strong commitment to international collaboration,” Market said.
Greece’s audiovisual sector contributes €1.9 billion to the national economy, supports around 44,000 jobs and includes around 3,000 companies active across production, post-production, animation and related creative services. Recent films shot in Greece that received support from the 40% cash rebate include Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bougonia, Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s Hot Milk, and Charlie Kaufman’s How to Shoot a Ghost.
