Do you have arugula?
Gwyneth Paltrow revealed on Wednesday’s Today show that she uses leafy greens instead of milk in her recipes, a comment that clearly confused Savannah Guthrie.
“If you want to avoid dairy, one of my tips is to dice up some arugula and throw it in,” the Goop author, 53, explains while making turkey meatballs in the cooking section.
“Really?” Guthrie, 54, asked. “That’s strange.”
Paltrow acknowledged that the swap “sounds weird,” but insisted: “It adds a little bit of texture and it’s delicious.”
Guthrie gave the “OK” to the move as the actress continued to cook.
Social media users had a blast with the clip, with one person quipping: “When I don’t have milk for pancake mix, I just add lawn clippings.”
Another joked: “If grandma had wheels she’d be a bicycle!”
Some called for Paltrow to go to jail immediately, while others sarcastically recommended “dirt” and “wood shavings” as “textures.”
However, one fan defended the Oscar winner in the comments section.
“Sounds weird but I think it’s taken out of context,” an Instagram user wrote. “Instead of adding grated Parmesan, you can also definitely add diced arugula. This lightens the texture and adds flavor and moisture.”
Paltrow has made headlines in the past for her approach to food, with Meghan McCain accusing the Marty Supreme star of promoting a “starvation diet” in 2023.
Notably, the call came after Paltrow revealed on her podcast, The Art of Being Well, that she ate bone broth for lunch, practiced intermittent fasting, and used an IV.
The Golden Globe winner later defended herself via Instagram Story, insisting, “I eat well. Some days I eat fries or whatever I want. My baseline is to eat healthy.”
Last year, Paltrow made a strong case for quitting the Paleo diet, admitting that she had been “a little strict” with her diet in the past.
“I’m going back to eating sourdough bread and cheese…a little bit of pasta,” she shared with Goop Podcast listeners in April 2025.
