Disney+’s live-action TV series Eragon has taken a big step forward.

Variety reported that Todd Haasan and Todd Helbing are attached to the project as co-showrunners, with Haasan set to co-create the show along with Eragon author Christopher Paolini. All three will serve as executive producers.

Marc Webb is also attached as an executive producer, as is Rachel Moore. As previously reported, Bart Salke will serve as executive producer through Co-Lab 21. 20th Television is the studio, and 20th TV is optioning the entire book series, The Inheritance Cycle. The show remains in development at Disney+. Haasan currently has an overall contract with 20th TV.

Variety exclusively reported that “Eragon” is in development for Disney+ in 2022. The show’s official logline reads, “When fate chooses an ordinary teenager to become the first Dragon Rider in 100 years, he must forge an unbreakable bond with the dragon, master ancient magic, and take on the mad king who destroyed the Riders.”

Haasan currently serves as showrunner on ABC’s hit series “High Potential.” He previously created the Fox drama series “Rosewood” and has worked on other shows such as “Psycho,” “Crash,” “Dominion,” “The Resident” and “The Company You Keep.”

Helbing was the co-creator of the popular CW series “Superman & Lois” and the showrunner of fellow CW Arrow-verse series “The Flash.” He’s currently developing the “Mech Cadets” TV series with Brent Fletcher for Disney+, as well as working on shows like “Black Sails,” “Spartacus” and “Smallville.”

Director Webb is known for directing films such as “(500) Days of Summer” and the blockbuster films “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” His other credits include the feature “Gifted,” starring Chris Evans and Jenny Slate, and shows like “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Limitless” and “High Potential.”

Harthan is repped by UTA and Circle Management + Production. Mr. Helbing is represented by CAA and Mr. Gendler, Mr. Kelly and Mr. Cunningham. Mr. Webb is repped by CAA and Richter Grossman.

“Eragon” is the first of four “Inheritance Cycle” books, followed by “Eldest,” “Brisingr,” and “Inheritance.” Together, these books have sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. Eragon was made into a film of the same name in 2006 starring Ed Speleers as Eragon, Rachel Weisz as the voice of Saphira, Jeremy Irons as Brom, and John Malkovich as Galbatorix. The film was widely panned by critics at the time of its release, grossing around $250 million worldwide against a reported budget of $100 million. In 2021, fans of the book started using the hashtag #EragonRemake to try to get Disney to produce a series based on their disappointment with the movie.
