Last month, Variety broke the news that Netflix would release the film, which was produced by Lucky Chap.
Inspired by Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick’s book Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem, and the Lives of Irish Emigrant Women, Bad Bridget is set in 19th century famine-ravaged Ireland and focuses on two sisters who make a perilous journey to America to escape their abusive father, poverty and starvation. Once in New York, they join the ranks of other Irish women, the so-called “Bridgets”, and cause chaos in the city.
The book was optioned in 2025 by Peppiatt and his “Kneecap” producer Trevor Barney, who the two co-produced with Lucky Chap for their Coup de la Films banner. Produced by executive Kate Collins.
Behind the camera is a group of award-winning creators, including BAFTA-winning cinematographer Ryan Carnahan (Kneecap, Trespass), Oscar-winning and BAFTA-winning production designer James Price (Poor Things), and Oscar-winning and BAFTA-winning costume designer (Frankenstein).
Bad Bridgets was developed with support from Queen’s University Belfast and produced with support from Northern Ireland Screen.
