Beta Film has been brought on board to handle worldwide sales for the romantic drama series “La Vida Barcelona.”

This female-led story is directed by Katina Medina Mora, who directed films such as Emily in Paris, When I Got Beautiful, and Kitty, and co-directed by Charlotte Scott-Wilson, who directed the Tribeca Award-winning film Hold On, and Ira Spans, who directed films such as Raki & Peppe and When We Were Strangers.

The series has just finished filming in Barcelona and will move to Amsterdam. Dutch actress Holly May Brood stars as Julia, co-starring Priscilla Delgado (Euphoria) and Greta Fernandez (The Walking Dead).

“La Vida Barcelona” follows Julia, a young Dutch designer who is sent to Barcelona by her powerful mother to secretly undermine a rival agency. But soon, Julia is overwhelmed by the bustling city, her new job, and the two men.

The series, consisting of eight half-hour episodes, is the third joint project between Millstreet Films, Videoland and Beta Films, following the success of Maxima and its upcoming spin-off, The Other Royals – Maxima Stories.

Martinho Rivas (El Internado) and Agustín Dela Corte (Society of Snow) also star. The screenplay will be written by Emily Reekers, Jicky Schelling, and Alix van der Goss. The series is produced by Rachel van Bommel of Millstreet Films at Videoland in the Netherlands. Nestor Hernandez is Beta Film’s executive producer.

The series is supported by a Dutch Film Fund production grant, a Spanish tax rebate and the Creative Europe MEDIA program.

“La Vida Barcelona takes our collaboration with Millstreet to the next level of internationalization,” said Justus Riesenkampf, Beta Film’s vice president for Northern Europe and Benelux. With top talent such as director Catina Medina Mora (2007) and Priscilla Delgado (Euphoria), this show will compete with high-end English productions in this genre. Barcelona offers the perfect production.” With a backdrop that captivates young viewers around the world, you can’t help but follow Julia as she dives into an adventure filled with ambition, romance, intrigue and friendship. ”

Director Van Bommel said: “La Vida Barcelona is a feel-good series emotionally rooted in a modern mother-daughter relationship. It’s a story about ambition, identity and the courage to find your voice. At the same time, it’s a truly female-led project both in front of and behind the camera, which is important to Millstreet Films.”

Medina Mora said, “La Vida Barcelona is essentially a story about identity. It explores what it feels like to have to prove yourself by moving to another country, but finds that what starts out as a mission gradually becomes a journey of self-discovery.”

“Barcelona becomes more than a backdrop. Its energy, culture, and sense of possibility transform Julia’s journey, allowing her to discover parts of herself she never knew were there. Barcelona gives her the freedom to explore herself outside of the expectations she grew up with, all while navigating anxiety, ambition, and the unfamiliar, making the story both deeply personal and universally relatable.”
