In tears, Angelina Jolie looked back at her mother, Multiline Bertrand’s cancer death in 2007 during an emotional Toronto International Film Festival appearance.
During the Q&A for the actress’s latest film, “Couture,” on Sunday, fans who recently lost their cancer friend asked the cast what the “hope” message was for those still grieving.
“I’m very sorry about your loss,” Jolie said as she began to choke.
“I think you remember what my mom said when she had cancer. She told me once, we were having dinner and people asked her how she felt and said, ‘Everyone has cancer,'” she added.

In 1999, Bertrand was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The “going out” actress was later diagnosed with breast cancer.
Bertrand passed away in January 2007 at the age of 56.
Six years after her death, Jolie had a double mastectomy because she was at high risk of developing breast cancer.
In 2020, Mamas of Six wrote about their mother’s life and death in their second essay in the New York Times.
Jolie compared the person who lost his mother to “rip a protective blanket.”
“Looking back at that time, I can see how much her death changed me,” she wrote at the time. “It wasn’t sudden, but so much moved inside. Losing my mother’s love and warm, soft embrace is like someone tearing a blanket of protective hair.”
Bertrand shared Jolie and his son James Haven, 52, with famous actor John Voight.
The late actress and “Anaconda” actor, 86, divorced shortly after “Lara Croft: The Tomb Raider.”
