A Tinker Bell live-action series is in the works for Disney+

Disney+ is making a wish on a familiar star. The streamer is developing a new version of “Tink,” a project about the iconic character Tinker Bell, which it has been working on in various forms for at least a decade. The new “Tink” is currently considered a “high priority project” at Disney+, with fellow “Friday Night Lights” stars Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter attached to write and executive produce.

Disney hasn’t released a logline for the project, but “Tink” has a long history with the studio. In 2010, Tink was announced as a live-action romantic comedy starring Elizabeth Banks and produced by Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot, and McG. In 2015, Reese Witherspoon was cast to star in an alternate version of Tink, which was later promoted as a live-action film based on the Peter Pan character Tinker Bell. (Most recently, Yara Shahidi played Tinker Bell in the 2023 live-action film Peter Pan and Wendy.)

This version of “Tink” has been adapted into a drama on Disney+ through 20th Television. Heldens and Carpenter will be joined by Gary Marsh, former president of Disney Channels Worldwide and president and chief creative officer of Disney Branded Television. He resigned from that position in 2021 to focus on producing. (Tink was also mentioned as a project he was working on at the time.) Selfish Mermaid’s Quinn Haberman is also an executive producer.

Heldens currently serves as co-showrunner on ABC’s “Will Trent.” Her previous work includes “Boston Public,” the medical drama “Mercy,” the crime drama “Deception,” the sci-fi thriller “The Passage,” and the network dramas “Camp” and “The Big Leap.” She also served as an executive producer on FOX’s “The Orville” and Hulu’s “The Dropout.”

Carpenter’s credits include “Only Murders in the Building,” “Parenthood,” “Westworld,” “The Red Road” and “11.22.63.” She is also a playwright whose work has been produced by Steppenwolf Theater Company, the Public Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theater, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, among others.

Deadline broke the news.
