Nick Reiner still receives support from one of his closest relatives.
Rob Reiner’s sister, Annie Reiner, has remained by her nephew’s side since he was charged with the December 2025 murders of the filmmaker and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, sources exclusively tell Page Six.
“Annie has supported Nick throughout the legal process,” a source said. “Despite the circumstances surrounding the incident, she remained in his corner and her presence meant a lot to him.”
Representatives for the Reiner family did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The revelation comes amid growing concern over Nick’s conditions behind bars at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Correctional Facility, where he has been held since his arrest.
“Nick doesn’t look like Nick anymore,” a source close to the Reiner family told the Daily Mail.
“He is deteriorating rapidly. No one will recognize him. He is almost bald because he has to cut his hair short to keep the bugs out. And he is very thin because he is on strong medication. His eyes are very sunken,” the source said.
“Nick has been down for years, but before he went to prison, parts of his personality were recognizable. That’s not the case now. He’s like a babbling child and completely insane,” the source continued. “It’s so unfortunate that his lawyer is having such a hard time talking to him.”
Annie, 77, has largely stayed out of the spotlight since the murders of her brother and sister-in-law, but a week after the tragedy she was photographed with family and friends gathered at her Los Angeles home.
Nick was arrested by Los Angeles Police Department officers on December 14, 2025, shortly after his father and mother, aged 78 and 70, respectively, were found stabbed to death inside their Brentwood home.
He was charged with multiple counts of murder and two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of personal use of a knife.
Rob and Michelle’s death certificates say they died “within minutes” of “multiple sharp force injuries” caused by “another person’s knife.”
If convicted, Nick faces the possibility of the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Nick had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and had a long history of drug addiction before he was killed after an argument with his parents at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on December 13.
He pleaded not guilty in February.
Rob and Michelle, who were married in 1989, are also parents to son Jake Reiner, 35, and daughter Romy Reiner, 28. Before marrying Michelle, actor and director Rob was married to Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981. While they were dating, Rob adopted a daughter, Tracy Reiner, 62.
Jake broke his silence about his parents’ deaths in an essay for Substack, detailing the exact moment he learned of their deaths.
“I was at Union Station to celebrate the life of one of my best friends, Christian Anderson, who passed away in October,” Jake wrote. “Just then, my sister Romy called me to tell me that my father had passed away. A few minutes later, she called me back and told me that my mother had also passed away.”
Jake continued, “The 45-minute Lyft ride from Downtown to the Westside was unbearable. My world as I knew it fell apart. I was in a trance. The only thing I could focus on was that I had to go to my childhood home. I had to go to my sister. I had to figure out what the hell was going on.”
Jake lamented that he felt “so much was taken away” after losing his father and mother, adding that the tragedy “shattered my heart and enraged me at the same time.”
“Nothing can prepare you for the feeling of losing both of your parents at the same time,” he added. “It’s too shocking to understand. I still have to wake up every morning and tell myself, no, this is not a dream. This is truly a living nightmare for me.”
In April, Jake shared a throwback snapshot of himself with his parents on Instagram with a heartfelt caption.
“One week from today, I will celebrate my first birthday without my parents. I consider myself lucky to have had them by my side for the past 34 years,” he wrote. “Over the past four months, I have learned a lot about grief. I would like to thank @iamdavidkessler and my family and friends for helping me overcome the fear of this process. I hope you will take the time to read my full essay linked in my bio. If you are facing any kind of grief or loss, I see you.”
He concluded his post by writing, “Dear Aunt Martine, we love you and thank you for taking care of us.”
