Travis Kelce was unable to join Taylor Swift in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is in the team’s mandatory minicamp this week. Ohio native Travis Kelce recently talked about taking Taylor Swift to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ game against the New York Knicks.
Taylor Swift traveled from Los Angeles to New York to watch Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks tonight at Madison Square Garden. Her friends Este and Alana Haim also joined her, all wearing punning Knicks shirts.
But her fiancé, Travis Kelce, wasn’t with them, but that’s not because the Cleveland native isn’t rooting for the Knicks this season.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end will not be on the road today as he is participating in the team’s mandatory minicamp from June 9-11. The Chiefs shared more photos of the X of Kelce meeting with Make-A-Wish kids during a team event.
But Kelce and Swift attended a game between the Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers last month. He talked about his experience showing his partner his hometown in New Heights, stressing that he wasn’t trying to turn her into a Cleveland sports fan.
“This is just a fun date night because I love going to basketball games,” he said. “Actually, when I was stuck in Kansas City, we tried to go to a game in New York. I love bringing her into the world of sports, which I appreciate, so (they) saw us at the U.S. Open tennis game. I’ve taken her to other baseball games as well.”
Still, he loved sharing the team with her. “Obviously, I’ve been a lifelong Cleveland sports fan, and bringing Tay back to Cleveland and showing her my roots is always something I love,” he explained.
Although he didn’t win the game and “it was tough to see him lose,” his energy was contagious. “Oh, it was really fun to be in the building and feel the electricity of Cleveland and be close to home,” he said.
After watching the Knicks play, he knew he would support them for the rest of the season. “The Knicks are doing well right now,” he said. “Hats off to New York. I’ll probably continue to support New York.”
