Tyler White’s original song “Love on the Spectrum” submitted for Emmy Awards

There’s love in the air in the Emmy competition for original songs.

Variety has exclusively confirmed that the original song “Sounds Pretty Good to Me,” featured in the Season 4 finale of the Netflix documentary series “Love on the Spectrum,” has been deemed eligible and officially submitted for consideration in the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics category at the Emmy Awards.

The song, performed by cast member Tyler White and dedicated to his fiancée Madison Marilla at this season’s engagement party, serves as one of the series’ signature emotional high points. White co-wrote the song with Jackson Nance and Cameron Bedell.

White also performed “Sounds Pretty Good to Me” at the reception for the FYC event “Love on the Spectrum” in Los Angeles on April 3rd, giving voters and guests a live rendition of the ballad, which is currently the talk of the awards.

The songwriting competition marks new territory for the series, which has built a reputation in the reality field since last season when cast member Abby Romero’s song “Boyfriend Forever” was entered, but ultimately ignored.

“Love on the Spectrum” premiered on Netflix in 2022 and has since won seven Primetime Emmy Awards in the past three seasons, including Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program and Casting in 2022 and 2025, and directed by Sian O’Cleary in 2024.

A nomination for “Sounds Pretty Good to Me” would extend its success to the craft category, which is typically dominated by scripted series, limited series and variety specials.

The Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics race recognizes a single original song written for a qualifying program and honors its songwriter. This entry puts White, Nance, and Bedell in contention for the Creative Arts Emmy Awards alongside experienced composers and lyricists who typically appear in the field.

Created by Karina Holden and Sian O’Cleley for Northern Pictures, Love on the Spectrum is a warm look at how people on the autism spectrum navigate dating and relationships. Season 4 was followed by Connor Tomlinson, Dylan Aguilar, Emma Sue Miller, Georgie Harris, James B. Jones, Logan Pereira, Madison Marilla, Sheree Wolfie, and Tyler White.

Netflix announced a season 5 renewal in April, with Tomlinson exiting the series and set to return in 2027.

Emmy nomination voting begins June 11th and runs through June 22nd.
