Homer Gere, Ellen Barkin, Willem Dafoe and Michael Douglas have joined the cast of Oliver Stone’s White Lies. This marks the reunion of Douglas and Stone, who collaborated on “Wall Street,” and the reunion of Dafoe and Stone, who collaborated on “Platoon” and “Born on the Fourth of July.” Yvonne Chapman also joins the ensemble. Josh Hartnett was previously announced to star in the film.
Stone has quietly completed principal photography on “White Lies,” a long-conceived passion project shot in Europe and Asia. This film is the director’s first narrative work in 10 years. His last film was 2016’s “Snowden.”
“The cast was a total delight from start to finish, and the Italian crew were some of the warmest people I’ve ever worked with. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity,” Stone said in a statement.
In a recent interview with Variety, Stone described the film, which he wrote and directed, as “a personal story about people and relationships.” A press release announcing the casting describes the film as “a departure from his past work, offering an intimate and provocative drama that explores family, loss, and pain, and reveals how love can change shape during our lifetimes.”
“White Lies” follows Jack Freeman (Hartnett), a child of divorce, who repeats his parents’ mistakes in his own marriage and his own children. He embarks on a “lustful escapade” but finds himself even more lost than before. Things change when he meets a woman whose life is the complete opposite of his own.
Fernando Suricin is produced by Suricin’s New Element Media with Maximilian Alverais and Jordan Gartner. Eagle Pictures’ Tarak Ben Ammar and Gianluca Leulini join James Packer and Jose Luis Manzano as executive producers.
“We are extremely proud of what Oliver and his cast and crew have accomplished,” Suritin said in a statement. “I was thrilled to reunite Oliver with Willem and Michael, two outstanding actors who starred in his signature films Platoon and Wall Street, respectively, and to see him work with Ellen, whom he has known and admired for many years. It was also a joy to see Oliver work with the amazingly talented Homer and Yvonne for the first time. We look forward to bringing this film to audiences around the world.”
Douglas won an Oscar for “Wall Street.” His credits include “Wonder Boys,” “Basic Instinct” and “Fatal Attraction.” Dafoe has been nominated for an Oscar four times, including for “Platoon,” and has also starred in “The Florida Project,” “The Last Temptation of Christ,” and “Poor Things.” Birkin has appeared in “Diner,” “Sea of Love,” “This Boy’s Life,” and television’s “Animal Kingdom.” Gere’s works include “The Shards” and “Euphoria.” Chapman stars in “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
Gere is repped by WME, Brookside Entertainment and Jackoway Austin Tyerman. Chapman is repped by Echelon Talent Management, Industry Entertainment, and The Characters Talent Agency. Mr. Birkin is repped by CAA, Bond Artist Management and Del Shaw Moonves. Dafoe is repped by WME and Circle Management + Production. Douglas is repped by UTA and Manatt Phelps & Phillips.
