The British and Irish box office experienced stiff competition, with Paramount’s series revival “Scary Movie” securing the top spot with a solid debut of £4.1 million ($5.6 million).

Piece Of Magic Entertainment’s “The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act,” which debuted in second place, earned $3.6 million. In third place was the Sony-distributed fantasy blockbuster “Masters of the Universe,” which debuted with $3.5 million.

A24’s psychological horror “Backrooms” rose to No. 4 in its second session, adding $3 million to the box office and now collecting a total of $11.6 million.

Universal’s horror-romance “Obsession” came in fifth place, earning $2.5 million in its fourth weekend for a total of $13.8 million.

Disney’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu” came in at No. 6 in its third weekend, collecting $1.8 million and rising to a peak of $18.8 million. Universal’s long-running biographical music drama “Michael” ranked seventh in its seventh week of release, earning $1.8 million for a total of $67.7 million.

“The Sheep Detectives,” distributed by Sony, took eighth place in the fifth slot, adding $745,302 for a total of $12.4 million. Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 debuted at No. 9 in its sixth week with $730,187, pushing its box office total to $44.8 million. Black Bear’s “Tuner” rounded out the top 10 in its second year slot, earning $583,456 for a total of $1.4 million.

Looking ahead to the next frame, the theatrical schedule is highlighted by major midweek and Friday openings. Universal will anchor Arrivals on Wednesday, June 11 with Universal’s “Disclosure Day,” directed by Steven Spielberg and featuring a cast including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson and Coleman Domingo, which will begin performances in more than 300 locations.

It includes a wide range of specialized independent productions, including Trinity CineAsia’s animated feature Detective Conan: The Fallen Angel of the Highway, which arrives on Friday, June 12th. The film joins Sean Robert Dunn’s The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford on more than 25 sites through Mubi and Julian Schnabel’s The Hand of Dante, which will stream in limited theatrical runs on fewer than 25 screens on Netflix.

Two Fresh Distribution is responsible for the release of the documentary “Kapodistrias, (The Government)” and “Fight Like A Girl” is distributed by the Underground Slate banner. Dogwoof Films will premiere Sara Dosa’s climate documentary ‘Time and Water’, which will also feature Entertainment Film Distributors’ ‘Solo Mio’ and Singeetham Srinivasa Rao’s Telugu musical fantasy ‘Singeetham’.

Repertoire and restoration options also strengthen the market, including a wide range of reissues of Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Boogie Nights (4K restoration)” in over 100 locations. Other retrospective titles include a 4K restoration of Baz Luhrmann’s classic Strictly Ballroom, which was released on more than 25 screens, and BFI Distribution’s specialist arthouse reprint of James Bidgood’s The Pink Narcissus in a smaller footprint.
