Tom Hardy is leaving “Mobland”.
Variety has confirmed to sources that Hardy will not appear in season 3 of the Paramount+ crime drama. Production on Season 2 has already concluded, with filming wrapping up in March. Sources said Hardy was not asked to return to the series due to issues with executive producer Jez Butterworth and 101 Studios.
Variety has reached out to representatives for Hardy, Butterworth, Paramount and 101 Studios for comment.
Season 3 has not been officially announced at this time, but given the show’s success on the streaming platform, it’s almost guaranteed. It remains to be seen how Hardy’s character will be portrayed from the series.
Hardy plays fixer Harry da Souza in the series. The series launched on Paramount+ last spring and quickly became the second most-watched series on the platform. Produced by Ronan Bennett, “Mobland” stars Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Paddy Considine. The film follows the Harrigan crime family led by Conrad, played by Brosnan, and his wife, Maeve (Mirren). Considine plays his son Kevin.
Butterworth co-wrote the scripts for all 10 episodes with Bennett.
This isn’t the first time Hardy has clashed with colleagues on set. He infamously had a falling out with co-star Charlize Theron on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road, with director George Miller later revealing that he “had to kick her out of the trailer.” Kyle Buchanan also wrote in his book about the making of the film, Blood, Sweat and Chrome: The Wildest True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, that Hardy was “aggressive” during filming.
Puck was the first to report the news of “Mobland.”
