Taylor Swift’s website briefly displayed a countdown featuring clouds in a style similar to the movie Toy Story. Fans have speculated that Swift might release a song on the Toy Story 5 soundtrack, but she hasn’t confirmed anything. Swift spoke about how her songwriting has changed in an interview published earlier this week.
Taylor Swift warned fans to be on high alert for new music after a 48-hour countdown featuring Toy Story-style clouds briefly appeared on her website this afternoon. It was quickly removed and her homepage once again featured her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” During the release of The Life of a Showgirl, Swift regularly held countdowns on her site, usually ending with the release of a special limited edition vinyl for the album.
Although the countdown disappeared, some fans took screenshots and posted them on social media. With Toy Story 5 set to be released on June 19th, there are theories that the new song will be included in the soundtrack. Swift has remained silent on her social media. But she wore a Staud dress on April 27 in colors similar to Countdown and the movie (sky blue, white, plus a Dior yellow bag and red lip), which could be a fashion Easter egg.
Earlier this week, the New York Times published a 30-minute interview with Swift in which she talked at length about her songwriting. She talked about moving away from writing songs that had untold emotions about people in her life, especially folklore songs about fictional subjects.
“I can only tell you, but as I’ve grown, the intensity of the kind of no-pun ‘message-in-a-bottle’ nature of my songwriting has changed and turned into something else,” she said. “Before, I was like, ‘I can’t express how I feel to people, so I’ll write it in this song.’ And that was really important to me at the time. It’s also important when you’re in your early 20s and you don’t want to talk to someone because it’s bad for you and it’s harmful. So you just write that in the song, and that’s where it lives, like a way of self-control or self-preservation or something. But with the ‘Folklore’ album and things like that, it was more like I wanted to challenge myself as a writer.”
