Benny Blanco and Barry Keoghan spoke out on Friends Keep Secrets about the mean comments they’ve received about their looks. Blanco shared a funny post featuring herself, Corgan, Taylor Swift’s fiancé Travis Kelce, and Ariana Grande’s partner Ethan Slater, and said she doesn’t mind people calling her “ugly.” The music producer revealed that even Gomez is surprised by the way she deals with hate online. I will receive it.
Benny Blanco knows that people comment on his appearance, especially compared to his wife Selena Gomez, and he also knows that he deals with criticism differently than other people who have famous and beautiful partners.
Blanco and guest Barry Keoghan, who faced similar scrutiny during his date with Sabrina Carpenter, spoke on his podcast Friends Keep Secrets about how they feel about the noise.
“I get so much hate just because I look like this,” Kogan said.
“But there’s one thing I want to tell you, because I’m a man no more will be talked about,” Blanco told him.
Mr. Kogan then interjected and asked if she had seen the post that had 20 million views of their faces side by side. “I thought, ‘How ugly are they?'”
“Oh my god. Dude, you’re hot,” Blanco retorted. “You’re much hotter than me.”
He emphasized that Corgan is a “movie star” and added, “I’ve never even seen you bad.” He then brought up posts that several friends had sent him making fun of him, Corgan, and two other men who date the pop star: Ariana Grande’s partner Ethan Slater and Taylor Swift’s fiancé Travis Kelce.
“I think it’s really funny that I like you and I like Travis Kelce, and then Ariana likes the guys she dates and is like, ‘Who among these ugly assholes would you want to date?'” Blanco said. “And they’re like ‘their girlfriends.’
“I don’t care about that,” Kogan said.
More seriously, Blanco admitted that the comment caused emotional damage. “Sometimes these things seem so huge in our heads,” he says. “I’m not going to lie, I’m sure it’s a big deal.” But Blanco said he’s “not one to comment and when I see comments and my friends say that, it’s because they know I have the thickest skin.”
He also revealed that his ability to remain unfazed surprises Gomez, who says he is further affected by comments about him.
“Selena comes up to me and she’s like, ‘I can’t believe you’re[coping]so well.’ She’s like, ‘I’m going to take a look and respond to the comments about it,'” he said. “[But]I have a very unique perspective. For me, I was 17 or 18 years old when I became really famous in a field. I’ve been doing it publicly since I was a kid. Then I started helping other stars in their endeavors. I didn’t become famous until 2020, so for me it’s only been about six years… Once I became famous, I thought, “I don’t want this.”
