Meghan Markle dropped $35,000 worth of luxury jewelry while feeding the homeless in Melbourne, Australia.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, visited Macauley Women’s Community Services alone on Tuesday wearing a $26,200 Cartier Tank Française watch, a $7,950 yellow gold Cartier Love bracelet, and $780 worth of gold Puffy Hearts earrings from Real Fine Studio.
Markle’s eyebrow-raising ensembles included wearing an apron over an $892 navy sleeveless Karen G. Priscilla dress while serving lunch to residents of a domestic violence and homeless shelter.
The Suits alum began a four-day trip to Australia on Tuesday, arriving with her husband Prince Harry, their first joint visit since the royal tour in 2018.
Her action of wearing expensive jewelry to a homeless shelter sparked a backlash.
“There’s nothing better than wearing $1,100 earrings, a Cartier watch, and a Tiffany bracelet in a homeless shelter. It’s just gross,” one reviewer wrote to X.
“Yeah, there’s nothing better than not shoving money in homeless women’s faces and making them feel comfortable with you, right?” someone else tweeted.
Another X user said, “She’s not there for the homeless, but for a self-promotional photo shoot, so she’ll probably need to wear jewelry.”
A fourth person tweeted: “Why would anyone need to wear something so expensive to a shelter distributing food to women who didn’t have a bloody home?”
Before her solo trip to the homeless shelter, Ms Markle and Prince Harry, 41, stopped by the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, which Princess Diana also visited on her 1983 royal tour of Australia.
For their final engagement of the day, the couple visited the Australian National Veterans Museum (ANVAM) on the South Bank, where Markle once again donned a flashy outfit.
Her expensive look included a $1,000 St. Agni suede bomber and an $890 suede skirt layered over a $220 taupe P. Johnson Annie top.
Markle’s expensive accessories included $650 Aquazzura Purist Pump 105 heels and Real Fine Studio diamond signature studs worth $990. Cartier’s wrist stack remained intact.
Markle’s costume for the Veterans Museum cost more than $3,700.
The tour continues via Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney, with initiatives focused on mental health, veterans support and community resilience.
