‘The Season’ star announces world premiere date

Hong Kong’s new English-language revenge drama “The Season” is a series co-produced with SK Global, the makers of global hits such as “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Thai Cave Rescue,” and “Delhi Crime,” and is scheduled to be released this summer.

At this year’s Hong Kong Filmart, PCCW Media confirmed that the six-part series is set for its world premiere in June 2026 and will be available to stream on Viu for viewers in Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa. The series is available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the US, and viewers in Hong Kong can watch it on Now TV. International distribution is led by Fremantle with support from DeMaio Entertainment.

Cast members and the show’s creator, Yalung Tu, were at Filmart on March 18 to announce the release date.

“The Season” immerses viewers into the luxurious world of Hong Kong’s elite. At the center of this glittering social scene is the Hoechst family, an ancient golden dynasty whose reach extends from the city’s racetracks to luxury yacht soirees and star-studded charity galas. But beneath the polished façade and sparkling champagne, tensions smolder. And the arrival of Cora, a newcomer with a hidden agenda, threatens to unravel the carefully controlled world of high society.

Leading an international ensemble, Jessie Mei Lee commands the screen as Cora. Toby Stevens and three-time Golden Horse Award winner Karena Lamb will support the Hoechst family as Christopher and Fiona Hoechst. The cast also includes Chris Pang, Selina Jade, Justin Chen, Yvonne Chapman, Kōki, and Lee Je-yun, with special appearances from Hong Kong stars Anson Lo from Mirror and Murph Yau from Color.

Yarun Tu, known for his work on NCIS: Hawaii and his collaborations with Amazon Japan and HBO Asia, is the creator and executive producer of the series, with Chilean director Marialie Rivas serving as lead director and executive producer.

The entire series is filmed in Hong Kong. “There’s so much juxtaposition here,” Too said during the group’s appearance on stage. “There’s old, new, tradition, modernity, the city, water, and so many different aspects, so I thought we could do something that shows a lot of the glossy world and local Hong Kong.”

Lee also took to the stage to describe Cora’s character as an “outsider” with a “deep, dark secret” who ends up leading a double life. Pang, of “Crazy Rich Asians” fame, plays a wealthy “new money” member of a hotelier family, a role he said was “a lot of fun to play.”

PCCW Media CEO Janice Lee and Agatha Lo will serve as executive producers, and Chloe Dunn, executive vice president and head of television at SK Global, will serve as executive producers, along with the company’s executive producers Matt Aragachi and Dylan Tarason.
