Bruce Campbell has revealed that he is battling “incurable” cancer and is taking a break from work to focus on treatment.

The “Evil Dead” star, 67, shared the news on Monday’s X.

“Hey guys, these days they say when someone has a health problem it’s an ‘opportunity’. So let’s go with it. I have one of those too,” he wrote. “It is also referred to as a type of cancer that is ‘curable’ rather than ‘curable.’

“I’m sorry if it was a shock. It was for me too,” he continued.

Campbell said she would not discuss details about her cancer, but said she would have to postpone any future public appearances.

“My plan is to get as fit as possible over the summer so I can tour with my new film ‘Ernie & Emma’ this fall,” he wrote.

“The need for treatment and professional obligations are not always compatible.”

The actor said his future public appearances are currently taking a backseat to his treatment. His photo is from the 2025 Fan Expo in Denver in July 2025. Getty Images

Campbell added that he wasn’t looking for sympathy or advice by revealing his diagnosis, but wanted to be aware of any misinformation that might come out ahead of time.

“Don’t worry, I’m a tough son of a bitch and have great support so I think I’ll survive a while,” he wrote.

He concluded, “As always, you guys are the best fans in the world. We look forward to seeing you soon!”

Campbell is best known for playing Ash Williams in Sam Raimi’s horror series The Evil Dead.

The Evil Dead was released in 1981, and he also starred in 1987’s The Evil Dead II.

He wrote, starred in, and directed the new film “Ernie & Emma,” which tells the story of a widowed pear salesman who travels to scatter his wife’s ashes at a designated location.

Back in February 2010, Campbell told Page Six that the “Evil Dead 4” rumors were “ridiculous.”

“I’d love to do it, but Ash has to be in a walker by the time I start writing!” he joked.
