Variety exclusively reports that Jac Shaffer has signed a three-year general television contract with Amazon MGM Studios.
Under the agreement, Schaefer will develop, write, executive produce and direct original series for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.
Schaefer previously had overall deals with Marvel Studios and 20th Television. She is best known for creating and showrunning Marvel Studios’ hit Disney+ series WandaVision. The show is a Marvel Cinematic Universe series that premiered on Disney+, with Marvel stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their roles as Wanda and Vision from Marvel films.
The show was a huge hit, ultimately earning 23 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and numerous other honors. It was one of the most well-reviewed and highly rated TV shows of 2021. Schafer’s script won particular praise, with viewers expressing their love for the show, which embraced the classic sitcom format while dealing with the serious emotions that Wanda experienced during the story.
Schaefer then went on to produce the WandaVision spinoff, Agatha All Along, starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, reprising her WandaVision role. In addition to directing, Schaefer also served as showrunner, writer, and executive producer on that show. The show was also well-received and received three Emmy nominations, as well as Golden Globe and Independent Spirit Award nominations.
Most recently, Schaefer directed the pilot for the Disney+ series based on Louis Sachard’s novel “Halls,” and also contributed to the story of the Marvel film “Black Widow.” Prior to joining Marvel, he wrote the scripts for Disney’s animated feature film Olaf’s Frozen and the 2019 Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson comedy The Hustle, a remake of the 1980s comedy feature Dirty Rotten.
In 2009, Schaefer wrote, directed, and produced the sci-fi romantic comedy “TiMER.” The film was recently re-released and is now available for streaming.
Mr. Schaefer is represented by Mr. Curate, CAA and attorney Eric Heiman.
