Bill Maher believes his friendship with Jimmy Kimmel is over for good.
During an interview with Adam Carolla on Monday’s episode of his “Club Random” podcast, Marr revealed that he and Kimmel had a falling out over comments he made about Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNerney.
“Jimmy Kimmel, he’s very angry with me and I know you’re close to him,” Maher told Carolla, who co-hosted the Comedy Central series “The Man Show” with Kimmel from 1999 to 2004.
“I want him to know I’m sorry for being out of shape,” Maher, 70, continued. “I don’t think I did anything wrong. We may have disagreements. I mean, you and I don’t agree on everything. Look at this conflict, and yet we’re calm.”
The “Real Time” host said Kimmel, a die-hard liberal, is “one of the nicest people” he knows, but he is dissatisfied with Kimmel’s political views.
“This is the difference between right and left. It’s very troubling,” Maher explained. “My tribe is supposed to be left-wing, but they can’t talk unless they’re there, whereas Republicans come to my shows all the time.”
“I don’t just support the bulls on the left. I’ll never stop making fun of the bulls on the right. At all! And if that’s not enough for you, I think you’re an a-hole, and I don’t think Jimmy is an a-hole.”
Marr added, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The host said, “He’s a wonderful person, but because of recent events, I’m very worried that we may never talk to him again.”
“You guys are thick as thieves and should be on the same page,” Carolla, 61, told Maher.
Page Six has reached out to Kimmel’s representatives for comment.
In November, Marr accused Kimmel’s wife of cutting ties with family members who voted for Donald Trump.
McNerney, 47, told Kimmel on the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast that she was “very heartbroken because of my personal relationship with my husband being out there fighting this guy.”
“To me, for them to vote for Trump is the same as not voting for my husband and me and our family,” she added. “Unfortunately, I lost relationships with people in my family because of it.”
Reacting to McNerney’s comments on his HBO talk show at the time, Maher said, “She said she lost touch with her relatives because she sent them an email before the election with 10 reasons why they shouldn’t vote for Trump. Still, some people don’t follow through. So you get it. It’s an ultimatum. 10 reasons? I can think of about 100.”
“But I would never impose that on anyone as an ultimatum,” Maher continued. “An ultimatum doesn’t make people rethink their politics. An ultimatum makes people rethink themselves.”
And in December, Marr revealed on his podcast, Club Random, that he was angry at Kimmel for criticizing his wife.
“I was wearing kid gloves as much as possible,” Maher said. “And I know they’re mad at me. Oh, I’m sorry. I mean, I was also trying to be as respectful as possible, but I don’t agree with that line of thinking. And she put it out there, so I’m going to put it out there. I didn’t finish school. I love Jimmy and always have. I don’t know him very well, but he’s a great guy. I hope we can be friends forever, but I don’t know.”
Kimmel is famous for criticizing President Trump, 79, and Republicans on his late-night show.
Kimmel was suspended by Disney in September for his comments regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk. He returned to the sky a few days later.
