From her avant-garde costumes as matriarch Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek” to her power suits in “Home Alone” and goth-glam outfits in “Beetlejuice,” Catherine O’Hara has embodied some very stylish characters on screen.
But the Hollywood legend, who passed away on January 30, 2026, at the age of 71, was a true fashion icon off-screen as well, with a keen eye for clothes that made her one of our absolute favorites to watch on the red carpet, especially in recent years.
Working closely with longtime stylist Andrew Gelwicks, the award-winning Canadian actress topped the best-dressed list with looks for brands including Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne and Valentino. Much of it was done in Moira Rose’s favorite color palette.
O’Hara told Vogue in 2020, “I’ve always loved white and black, and I think they’re very clean and go with everything.” “And after working on Schitt’s Creek for six years, my love for black and white has only grown stronger. It’s bold and strong and graphic and cartoony and cool at the same time. It’s classic.”
And it was her role in the TV comedy that catapulted O’Hara to wider fashion star status. She first appeared on the front row in 2020 when she attended the Tom Ford show wearing a shiny croc-embossed skirt suit from Tom Ford. (“I couldn’t believe how serious people were,” she told Vogue of the experience. “There was very little laughter, very little smiling, it was very intense. I just felt like a happy alien in that place.”
Ultimately, O’Hara and the chic characters she played late in her career redefined what “age-appropriate” dressing looked like, proving that style has no expiration date.
“I want women, especially women of a certain age, to be inspired by Moira’s amazing and bold fashion sense. Don’t be afraid to wear a wig,” she told WSJ in 2019.
Below, take a look back at some of O’Hara’s most memorable red carpet moments.
