After Florida Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost revealed Saturday that he was the victim of a racially motivated assault in Park City the night before, several of his fellow politicians offered support and deplored the culture of anti-immigrant rhetoric that fueled the assault.
Among those who condemned X was Washington state Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who wrote, “I’m so grateful @MaxwellFrost is okay, but this type of violence is fueled and fueled by violent, anti-immigrant, anti-Black rhetoric and actions by Trump and other administration officials. This must stop.”
Several other politicians also spoke out below.
Frost acknowledged that he was the victim of the attack on X, writing, “Last night at Sundance, a man assaulted me and told me Trump was going to deport me before punching me in the face. As I ran away drunk, I heard him yell racist remarks. The man was arrested and I’m fine.”
He then added to X, “I’m fine. Thank you for all the blessings. We are in scary times. Please stay well and don’t let these people silence you. Forward.”
Variety reported that Frost was at the High West Saloon in Park City attending CAA’s Sundance Film Festival party when the assault occurred. The white assailant was taken into custody and subsequently arrested. His identity has not yet been revealed.
The Sundance Film Festival released a statement condemning the violence, saying, “We strongly condemn last night’s assault and abhor all forms of violence, harassment, and hate speech.”
