On the December 24th episode of his New Heights podcast, Travis Kelsey revealed that one of his favorite gifts from Taylor Swift was a bread slicer. This gift was inspired by the pop star’s love of baking sourdough.
Earlier this year, Swift opened up about her baking obsessions with New Heights, including her favorite sourdough flavor.
Travis Kelsey cracked the code on his thoughtful gift to Taylor Swift. On the Christmas Eve episode of New Heights, the Kansas City Chiefs player revealed that one of the best gifts he ever gave Swift was a practical kitchen tool to support her passion for baking sourdough.
“I think Tay’s favorite gift I got was a bread slicer,” Kelsey shared on the podcast, where she was joined by her brother Jason Kelsey and sister-in-law Kylie Kelsey. “Because she’s been mixing up so much sourdough.” He added: “Oh my god, my gut health is great. I love you, Tay.”
Jason was quick to back him up, pointing out that anything designed to make slicing easier is a huge upgrade when it comes to homemade bread, saying, “One of the unfortunate things about making fresh bread is trying to cut that shit up. It’s hard. And a slicer is a huge help.”
Kylie echoed her sentiments, suggesting that it’s just as hard to resist freshly baked bread. “I’m pushing myself to crush it as quickly as possible,” she said.
Swift’s sourdough days are well documented. During an appearance on New Heights earlier this year, the pop star enthusiastically explained the flavor rotation she’s been perfecting with Jason and Kylie’s daughters in mind. “We’ve got blueberry lemon. We’ve got cinnamon swirl, cinnamon raisin, and this is something I’m workshopping for the girls because they love all things rainbow-colored. It’s funfetti sourdough,” she said, and Jason responded, “Oh my gosh. That’s going to blow their mind.”
Swift added, “They do that because they love sprinkles. We put sprinkles in everything when we play.” She also admitted how addicting the hobby has become. “Sourdough has really taken over my life. I really talk about bread 60 percent of the time now,” she joked.
According to Kylie, Swift’s reputation in the kitchen is well-earned. Kylie didn’t hesitate to praise the singer’s skills on a November episode of her podcast, Not Gonna Lie. “Taylor makes sourdough bread that packs a punch,” she said, adding that between Swift and the rest of the family’s bakeries, there’s more than enough Thanksgiving dessert.
Swift’s baking talent has also become popular among her other friends. Over the summer, Swift gave Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco a basket of homemade bread for Gomez’s birthday. Inside was a handwritten note that read, “It’s a loaf story,” a playful nod to her 2008 hit “Love Story.”
