King Charles III is dissatisfied with the royal family’s chatter over Prince William’s successor.
Us Weekly reports that the monarch, in particular, is “not thrilled” with speculation that her eldest son will be directing the show amid the 77-year-old’s battle with cancer.
“He’s not feeling too good because he finally got the position he’s been waiting for all his life,” a source told the outlet on Tuesday. “Now that he is king, everyone is looking to see who will become king next.”
Sources claimed that Prince William, 43, is “strong-minded and stubborn” on royal issues and that he and his wife, Duchess Kate, are sending a clear message to the public about power.
The newspaper highlighted the couple’s dignified appearance at a state dinner earlier this month as a way to show that “no matter what happens[to the king]the monarchy remains healthy.”
The source also pointed out that her son Prince George has “taken on additional responsibilities” in recent months, proving that “the next generation is already on the horizon”.
Prince Charles, who ascended the throne in September 2022 following Queen Elizabeth’s death, announced his cancer diagnosis last year.
King Charles said in a health update earlier this month that “early diagnosis, effective intervention and compliance with doctors’ orders” will “help us shorten cancer treatment timelines in the new year”.
Another source insisted to Us Weekly on Tuesday that Prince Charles has not “relinquished” any control over William during his health struggles.
“William has his own office and staff separate from the king and works closely with Charles,” the source claimed. “Charles believes William will do a great job as king and is very supportive.[When there are disagreements,][William]respects his father’s decisions.”
The person acknowledged that the Prince of Wales had taken a “more serious” and “very presidential” demeanor.
“The palace is consciously elevating and presenting him in an authoritative manner and anticipating what’s to come,” the source said, before trashing Prince William and Middleton’s plans for a “new monarchy.”
“They are completely modernizing,” the newspaper reported. “The way The Farm operates will change, and the outdated rules will change. There will be more freedom.”
Additionally, the insider shared the duo’s planned downsizing strategy: “Less staff, less drama.”
Representatives for William and Charles did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Prince William hinted at how he would “change” the monarchy “for good” during his “Reluctant Traveler” roundtable with Eugene Levy in October.
“I accept it, I enjoy the change,” he said at the time. “I’m not afraid of it. That’s what excites me. The idea that we can make some changes. Not too radical, but changes that I think need to happen.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the Crown Prince said, “If we’re not careful, history can become the weight of reality and become a source of support for those around us, and we can feel suffocated by history or too constrained. And I think it’s important to live in the here and now.”
