Sidney Sweeney was familiar with the novel The Housemaid when he landed the lead role in Paul Feig’s film adaptation.
“It was juicy and delicious,” she told me at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday. “I couldn’t put the book down. I remember opening the book and saying, ‘Let’s open this, read a few chapters, and then do something else.’ I just didn’t move from my seat from the moment I opened the book until I finished reading it. It was just amazing. The characters, the development, the development, everything was so amazing that I really wanted to be a part of it.”
In this erotic thriller, Sweeney plays a woman with a dark past who is hired as a live-in maid for a wealthy couple played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Skenner.
There is already talk of a sequel. “We want to be able to give people what they want,” Sweeney said. “This is a great community of bookworms, and I would love to do another film there.”
Feig said, “I’m ready to make the next one, so let’s hope this one does well.”
Sweeney joined the project when Feig signed on as director.
Feig said working with the “Euphoria” star was “amazing.” “She’s so nice, so easy to work with, and the most professional person I’ve ever met. She shows up on set, ready to go, and brings an extra level to everything she does. She’s one of my heroes, I would say.”
Seyfried talked about his first day working with Sweeney. “We were doing a quick camera test and we found out right away that we were exactly the same shoe size and height. And I thought that was really funny. And it was just the fact that we were so into the book that we couldn’t believe we were actually making this movie, so I think it immediately resonated with us. Also, we’re going through the same process. She doesn’t take herself too seriously, and neither do I. I think that’s the fun part.”
“House Maid” is currently in theaters.
