New Zealand-based distributor Black Mandala has secured the rights to develop an animated series and action figure line based on the cult 1980s Argentine superhero toy series Guerreros del Manana (Warriors of Tomorrow).
The deal, signed during Ventana Sur, was signed between Guillermo Zanocco, who created the original toy series, and filmmaker Nicolás Onetti, who will direct the upcoming animated series.
Launched at the same time as Mattel’s “He-Man” figure, this locally produced Argentine superhero toy has evolved into a highly sought-after collectible on the international market over the past 40 years.
Black Mandala will be unveiling both the official series teaser and first collectible sculpture at Argentina Comic Con in Buenos Aires on December 5th.
The creative team behind this animation project includes Anibal Morales as the animation director, Luciano Onetti as the music composer, and Germain Surache as the sound designer. Artist Martin Cardoso creates a new line of collectible sculptures.
Veteran voice actor Ricardo Alaniz, known for his Spanish dubbing of Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme films and “Power Rangers,” will be in charge of dubbing the teaser.
Michael Kraetzer and Onetti founded genre specialist Black Mandala in 2017. The Oakland-based company has built a catalog of more than 150 titles focused on independent horror and genre films and maintains a presence in major film markets around the world.
The company’s recent productions include the debut feature Nightfall – Paranormal Investigation by young Australian filmmakers Miles McEwen and Ripley Stevens. “Beyond the Drumlins” directed by Dan Bowers. “The Blade Cuts Deeper” by Gene Dolders. and the horror anthology “The Last Supper.”
