Zootopia 2 has left its mark on the box office.
Disney’s sequel to 2016’s Zootopia dominated the North American and international box office over Thanksgiving weekend since opening in theaters on Wednesday, November 26th.
As The Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported on Sunday, November 30, the family film grossed an estimated $156 million at the domestic box office and $556 million worldwide over the five-day weekend.
As Disney stated in a press release, the film has the fourth-highest worldwide opening of any film in the world so far this year and the largest weekend opening, among other notable records. This will be the largest worldwide release ever for an animated film.
“The incredible response to Zootopia 2 reflects both its global appeal and the incredible work of our filmmakers and cast,” Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman said in a press release. “This is a proud moment for Disney Animation and all of us at Disney, not to mention a great start to the holiday season.”

At the North American box office, Zootopia 2 has the second-biggest Thanksgiving opening of all time, behind another Disney production, 2024’s Moana 2.
zootopia 2 will see Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman reprising their roles as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, as well as Kee Hui Quan, Fortune Feimster, Andy Samberg, Idris Elba, and Shaqi. The voice cast includes Quinta Branson, Danny Trejo, Macaulay Culkin, Brenda Song, John Leguizamo, Jenny Slate, Ed Sheeran, Robert Irwin, and Michael J. Fox. Let’s explore a world full of animals.
“The real fun of Zootopia is that you can identify with the animals. That’s you, that’s your friend, that’s your teacher, that’s the guy you saw at the DMV,” Jared Bush, who wrote and directed Zootopia 2, said in a press release. “There’s something very universal about it.”

Following Zootopia 2’s record-breaking start, Wicked for Good followed up its own record-breaking opening weekend by earning an additional $62.8 million at the domestic box office.
According to Box Office Mojo, the Wicked sequel has already grossed more than $393 million worldwide since its November 21 theatrical release, and The Hollywood Reporter noted that the sequel is “on par” with its predecessor, which has grossed more than $750 million worldwide after its November 2024 release.
