Lexi Hull quips about Indiana Fever teammate Caitlin Clark.
Just before the WNBA’s final season kicks off in May, Clark, 23, lovingly roasted Hal and Sophie Cunningham, 26, commenting in a bright photo at media day that she’s “a little less tan. I’m a little more of a bubbly woman.”
Now, Hull tells PEOPLE he wants his fair-skinned Fever teammates to join him in tanning.
“She’s definitely joking about it,” Halle told PEOPLE at the Glamor Woman of the Year event. Clark “makes comments here and there,” she says, “but it’s all in fun.”
Responding to Clarke’s comments, Hull said she and Cunningham, 29, had “put her through a lot”, adding: “Maybe she could use some sunshine herself!”

The Fever were plagued by injuries last season, losing Clark and Cunningham before the postseason, but they still exceeded expectations and nearly defeated the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces in the semifinals. “This year was definitely a year of growth. We faced a lot of adversity with injuries and things like that – at one point we had almost half our squad out – but it helped bring us closer together.”
Looking back on the season, Halle told PEOPLE, “I’m so grateful to Caitlin.” “She’s one of my best friends on the team and it’s been great growing together and chasing the same goals.”
“We have a very natural connection,” Hull continues of Clark. “We challenge each other at practice, but it’s also a lot of fun, so we have a good balance between competitiveness and camaraderie.”
And off the court, Hull is looking forward to continuing planning his wedding to fiancé Will Matthiessen. “I haven’t had much time to get into the details yet, but it’s been a lot of fun so far,” she says. “Planning can be the hardest part because we’re both so busy.”
Hull said that if they do get married, some of their Fever teammates will definitely be in attendance at the ceremony. “They will definitely be attending the wedding, but we’ll see about the bridal party lineup,” she said.
