Seven years after a sexual assault scandal rocked his career, Kevin Spacey has revealed he is homeless.
“I live in hotels, I live in Airbnbs, I go where the work is,” the Oscar winner said in an interview with The Telegraph published Wednesday. “Literally, I don’t have a home, that’s what I’m trying to explain.”
The actor told the outlet that his financial situation was “not great” following the scandal (he was ultimately acquitted of sexual assault charges by four men in the UK), but said he was “never on the verge” of bankruptcy.
Spacey has strongly denied any wrongdoing, but said: “The costs over the last seven years have been astronomical.”
He added: “There was very little coming in and everything going out.” Regarding the “canceled appearances” in Hollywood, Spacey said, “I can get over it.”
“In a weird way, I feel like I’m back to where I started, which is I just went where the work was,” said Spacey, who previously lived in Baltimore, Maryland.
“Everything is in storage. If the situation continues to improve, I think one day we will be able to decide where to settle again.”
The “American Beauty” actor, 66, has been accused of inappropriate behavior and sexual assault by more than 30 men, including “Star Trek: Discovery” actor Anthony Rapp, with the allegations beginning to surface in 2017.
Netflix ultimately eliminated Spacey’s iconic role in the hugely popular House of Cards, which ended in 2018, with co-star Robin Wright taking over the reins.
Spacey was acquitted of assaulting four men in a high-profile trial in the United Kingdom in July 2023, and was not found liable in a 2022 New York case.
The Horrible Bosses actor performed at a resort in Limassol, Cyprus this week as he tries to move on, according to the Telegraph.
During the release of the 2024 documentary Spacey Unmasked, the actor again denied any wrongdoing in the allegations against him, saying he could not “allow[himself]to be baselessly attacked” without defending himself.
In May 2024, he told former British journalist Dan Wootton: “I take full responsibility for my past actions and actions, but I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who has made up or exaggerated stories about me.”
“I have never told anyone that I would help them with their career if they offered me sexual favors,” he claimed.
In May, Spacey received a lifetime achievement award at an event in Cannes, France, where he described the past few years as “challenging.”
