Amazon employees were clearly impressed by Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson’s Olympic commentary on Peacock last year.
The comedy duo, which provided sports recaps on NBC’s Peacock during the 2024 Paris Olympics, aims to replicate that effort with “Good Sports,” a 12-episode weekly sports talk show that launches on Amazon’s Prime Video on Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. ET. Amazon says new episodes will stream every Tuesday night on Amazon’s streaming services worldwide.
Hart and Thompson take on everything from professional sports like the NFL and NBA to neighborhood pick-up games. There will also be exclusive interviews with athletes and actors, commentary on top stories and highlights, and original comedy field pieces. Some fans may have already seen the duo’s antics on Peacock, where they made impromptu remarks about things like a parade of boats traveling down the Seine at the 2024 Opening Ceremony. The American boats, packed with athletes and hangers-on, “looked like they were coming to America,” Hart quipped. “Look at this. Give us your rich, well-fed, high jumpers.”
Amazon’s launch comes at a time when many media companies are focusing on sports and sports-related programming. As more consumers turn to streaming video, they watch many of their favorite dramas, comedies, and reality shows on their own time. But live sports continues to attract large audiences that advertisers covet. As streaming providers, including Prime Video, increasingly seek advertising dollars to offset the cost of producing content for broadband viewers, they need programming that has a stronger appeal to Madison Avenue.
“Kiernan and I are bringing our own unique script to ‘Good Sports,’ and it’s a sure win,” Hart, who also serves as an executive producer, said in a statement. “This show gives us the opportunity to celebrate sports culture in a fresh, unfiltered and funny way.”
The series will be shot from studios in the Los Angeles area.
Thompson, who also serves as an executive producer, said in a separate statement, “Doing the Olympics with Kevin was wild, but this? This is next level.” “‘Good Sport’ is about us being who we are, telling jokes and working muscles we probably didn’t know we had. It’s going to be a good time!”
“Good Sports” is produced by Heartbeat of the Heart and Artist for Artists of Thompson. The series will be executive produced by Hart, Jeff Clanagan, Luke Kelly-Klein, Megan Hoffman, Mike Stein, and Heartbeat’s JC Del Barco II. Artist for Artists Kenan Thompson and Johnny Ryan Jr. and David Nichol and Colton Dunn. Michel Mastellone will serve as producer.
