What you need to know
Who knows about Tom Cruise’s secret nickname? Glen Powell is one of them.
Powell, 37, expressed surprise in a new interview with IndieWire when he heard people didn’t know how his Top Gun: Maverick co-star was called “TC.”
“Everyone in his life calls him that,” said the Running Munster star, 63, of Cruise.
“He’s a TC,” Powell added. “I’ll call him Cruz, TC. But yeah, most people call him TC.”

Cruise and Powell have remained close since co-starring in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, and just last week Cruise joined Powell at a screening of The Running Man to show his support.
Cruise captioned the Instagram post: “Another great night at the movies with friends! Congratulations to everyone on a great success! I laughed and sat on the edge of my seat eating way too much popcorn.”
Mr. Powell is also one of the winners of the Oscar nominee’s famous holiday coconut cake.
“I had the pleasure of meeting him the other day,” Powell told IndieWire. “It’s been such a wild journey that he and I have been on together, from starting the journey with ‘Top Gun,’ to riding that wave through the pandemic, to understanding what the theatrical landscape will look like on the other side. He’s been constantly in my life as a friend and a mentor, and he’s really just been watching over me.”
The creator and star of Chad Powers added that it’s “hard to understand” because most Hollywood stars don’t do that, adding, “Most Hollywood stars don’t take elevators back down or take care of people. Most of the time, he’s a very rare type of person who just really wants everyone around him to win.”

Powell stars in Edgar Wright’s The Running Man, which co-stars Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Jamie Lawson, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin. The film is an adaptation of the 1982 Stephen King novel and a remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film, and will be released in theaters on November 14th.
