Akon was arrested and released from a Georgia prison.
The “Dangerous” singer was arrested on Nov. 6 on an out-of-county warrant from the Roswell, Georgia, police department, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office booking report. He was arrested at 9:34 a.m. and released at 3:30 p.m.
Akon, 52, was then transferred to another facility and rebooked at midnight Nov. 7, according to a separate arrest report. His representative confirmed to PEOPLE that he was released immediately.
Akon was arrested on a suspended license, the New York Post’s Page Six reported. The warrant dates back to September 10, when a police officer found his Tesla Cybertruck stranded due to a dead battery, according to the outlet, which obtained the incident report.
While waiting for a tow truck, an officer noticed the “Smack That” singer’s license was suspended for failing to appear in court in January 2023, and the citation was issued, the paper reported.
“Due to administrative issues, the license suspension should never have been escalated. The payment was made but was not properly entered into the system. This matter will soon be rectified in court in early December,” a representative for Akon (real name Ariaune Badala Thiam) tells PEOPLE.

Akon’s arrest came two months after his wife of nearly 29 years filed for divorce.
According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, Tomeka Thiam filed for divorce from the star on Thursday, September 11, citing irreconcilable differences. She said the separation date was “undetermined” and that they have one child, a 17-year-old daughter, Journey.
She requested joint legal custody of her daughter and asked that Akon have physical custody until she could receive visitation. She also requested spousal support and asked the court not to award spousal support to Akon.
