Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s sons are trying to mend their relationship with Britney Spears.
Federline revealed that Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, are starting to work things out with their mother on Monday’s episode of “Talk Shop Live.”
While promoting her bombshell memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” Federline said her children are “trying to find a way to mend their bond with their mother.”
Dancer said he fully supports their efforts to bury the hatchet.
“They really love their mom, right? I mean, they always have, always will,” he said. “It’s instilled in them. And I always wanted them to have the connection to their mother that I have to my mother.”
Federline, 47, and the “Toxic” artist, 43, have not spoken since his book was published in October, but their sons have kept in touch with Spears.
“We haven’t talked about it specifically, but I know she’s talked about it with her sons, and that’s a good thing,” he said.
Ms. Federline explained how writing her book actually made recent reconciliation efforts possible.
“I know a lot of people think this book will make that situation worse, but we’ve done everything else,” he said. “We’ve tried everything, and when you’re faced with a situation like this, if I have to be the bad guy and everyone hates me, so be it.”
“I do it so the children can have a relationship with their mother.”
Federline, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, expressed hope that the relationship between his ex-wife and their children would improve.
“I really hope that we can get through all of this, this mess, that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I see it, but it’s going to be a difficult road and it’s going to take time,” he said.
Spears has a different take on Federline’s memoir, arguing that the portrayal of Federline as a mother is false.
“Trust me, the white lies in that book go straight to the bank. And the only person really hurt here is me,” she wrote in a lengthy post for X magazine on Oct. 15.
The pop star also accused Ms. Federline of “constant gaslighting” and claimed that she was “constantly begging and screaming” for a relationship with her sons.
“I will always love them. If you really knew me, you wouldn’t pay attention to the tabloids about my mental health or drinking,” she wrote. “In fact, I’m a very intelligent woman who has spent the past five years trying to live a sacred and private life. I speak about this because I’ve been through enough, and any real woman would do the same.”
Ms. Federline made several claims about Ms. Spears in her revealing memoir, including that she wanted her children dead and that she had punched Sean Preston. She also claimed to have used cocaine while breastfeeding.
Federline won custody of their sons after Spears had a public meltdown in the mid-2000s. Due to her emotional struggles, she was placed under a limited legal conservatorship, which ended in 2021 after 13 years.
Since regaining her freedom, she has continued to express concerns about her health, recently displaying unusual behavior behind the wheel and showing her house covered in dog feces.
Spears briefly deleted her Instagram account amid growing concerns, but returned to social media earlier this month with a lingerie post.
“So much has happened this year. It’s crazy,” she captioned the post.
