Ariana Grande is paying homage to Glinda in some unexpected ways.
The Oscar nominee is heading out on the press tour for Wicked: For Good and revealed what’s in store for her London premiere look on Monday, November 10th.
The 32-year-old actress worked with stylist Law Roach to create a portfolio of looks for the coming weeks, and wore a vintage black one-shoulder ball gown for the London premiere at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square.
However, this gown was originally worn in the 1952 musical film Lovely to Look At, and was designed by famed costume designer Gilbert Adrian. The late designer is known for his work on The Wizard of Oz (1939) and for enhancing the world of Oz with Dorothy’s ruby slippers and Glinda’s bubble dress. She told British Vogue that the gown was sourced from Los Angeles-based Lily et C, which sells 20th and 21st century gowns.
Grande talked about how special it was not only to have this piece, but to wear it during the press tour. “It’s so emotional and meaningful to have it join our personal vintage collection and wear something he made on this carpet,” she said.
“Ro and I cried many times during this fitting,” she continued.

Grande, who wore a bright pink look inspired by Glinda at the Wicked: Part 1 press tour, said she was trying to channel Glinda’s darker side this time around.
She said the look is “more mature (and) more emotional.” “It still feels like an extension of Glinda’s story. We’re just telling a different part of her story,” Grande added.
Weeks before the press tour begins, Roach, 47, exclusively teased what’s to come in a conversation with PEOPLE.
“Oh, baby, we have mood boards. We spend hours doing fittings and laughing and swearing. It’s just a lot of daydreaming and imagination,” the stylist said on Oct. 23.
While sharing what fans can expect, he revealed how generous Grande is to her and Roach’s team of people who work with her.
“What people need to know about her is that she is grateful and appreciative of being in this role. And she is also so excited and grateful to the designers who made these gowns and dresses for her,” he said, noting that she would express her gratitude directly to the designers.
