Ruby Rose has slammed “cretin” Sidney Sweeney for ruining her latest film, Christie.
On Tuesday, the “Orange Is the New Black” alum slammed Sweeney via a thread, shortly after the “Euphoria” actress defended her box office failure.
“The original Christy Martin script was amazing. It changed my life. I was obsessed with playing Cherry. Everyone was experiencing the core material,” Rose, 39, said.
“Most of us were actually gay. That’s part of the reason I continued acting. Losing roles happens all the time.”
Rose appeared to criticize Sweeney’s political beliefs after it was revealed that he was registered as a Republican voter. Sweeney, 28, also caused controversy this summer thanks to an ad for American Eagle Jeans that many online felt was filled with Nazi propaganda.
At the time, the ad received praise from President Donald Trump, and Sweeney later said it was “surreal.”
“When her spokesperson says it failed and that the SS did it for the ‘people,’ no ‘people’ want to see someone who hates them parading around pretending to be us,” Rose wrote on Tuesday.
“You’re a cretin and you ruined the movie. I get it. Christie deserved more recognition.”
Representatives for Mr. Sweeney did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
“Christie,” which stars Sweeney as gay boxer Christy Martin, the focus of the biopic’s title, had a poor opening weekend following its Nov. 7 theatrical release.
The film grossed $1.3 million from more than 2,000 screens, according to the Post.
Following the box office success, the Euphoria actress was quick to defend her film on Instagram, telling her followers that she was “deeply proud” to be a part of telling Martin’s story.
“I’m proud of the film David (Michod) made. I’m proud of the story we told. I’m proud to represent a strong and resilient person like Christy Martin. This experience has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” she wrote.
“This film represents survival, courage and hope. Through our campaign, we have helped raise awareness for the many people affected by domestic violence. We all signed on to this film believing that Christie’s story can save lives,” Sweeney continued.
“Thank you to everyone who saw, felt and believed this story, and to everyone who will continue to believe for years to come. If Christie inspires even one woman to take that first step to safety, we will have succeeded.”
The actress called the film “the most impactful project of my life,” and revealed that she signed on to the film not for its potential “numbers,” but rather for its “impact.”
“Christie” was another bombshell for Sweeney, following the crime comedy “Americana,” which grossed less than $500,000 on a $9 million budget, and Ron Howard’s $35 million “Eden,” which grossed $2.5 million.
The newspaper previously called Sweeney a “knockout” in the biopic and gave “Christie” three stars after its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
Audiences also gave the film a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
