Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel, has donated a “transformative gift” to the University of Southern California’s School of Motion Picture Arts, according to a release from the organization. The gift will establish the Kevin Feige Film and Television Production Department, which will provide funding for faculty and students with support from additional programs.
The Kevin Feige Department of Film and Television Production offers students the opportunity to receive training in filmmaking across multiple mediums, from traditional filmmaking principles to industry practices such as virtual production, AI, and other tools.
“Kevin Feige is above all a great storyteller who brings innovative and impactful films to our screens, and he exemplifies the kind of film producers that the School of Motion Picture Arts aspires to graduate,” School of Motion Picture Arts Dean Elizabeth Daly said in a statement. “He is also a passionate supporter of the school and its students. He is an inspiration in every way. As the school celebrates its 100th anniversary, we are delighted that the film and television production department will carry his name into the next century.”
Feige is an alumnus of the school’s film and television production department and serves on the School of Motion Picture Arts’ Board of Trustees. As president of Marvel Studios, Feige produced 37 No. 1-grossing films to date, grossing more than $32 billion worldwide, including 11 that grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. He was nominated for an Oscar in 2018 as a producer on Black Panther and received the Producers Guild’s David O. Selznick Achievement Award in 2019.
“USC’s School of Motion Picture Arts is the original film school, a historic institution founded by film pioneers. It’s where it all started for me as a producer, following in the footsteps of my heroes and walking the same hallways as the famous alumni who came before me,” Feige said. “Its nearly 100 years of tradition and the community that defines USC have allowed me to stay connected to the school and passionate about supporting the next generation of filmmakers.”
Previously, Feige established the Kevin Feige Endowment for Creative Production at USC in 2017.
